Min jul/ My Christmas
Tänkte berätta lite om hur jag firade julen eller hur vår familj brukar fira jul rättare sagt.
I´ll tell you little bit about how I or how our family celebrate Christmas
Vi åker och hämtar farmor som bor ca 10 km från oss, efter att vi hämtat upp henne åker vi alltid och hastigt lämnar över julklappar till min farbror och hans sambo. Efter det åker vi till kyrkogården och tänder ljus på gravarna. Ibland brukar vi gå på julgudstjänsten i kyrkan som alltid börjar vid ett men det skippade vi detta år.
Efter att vi vart på kyrkogården åker vi hemåt men före åker vi till kyrkogården som finns i byn och tänder ljus på graven där.
We`re picking up my dads mother who is living about 10 km from us, after we have picked her up we always quickly go and visit my dads brother and gives him and his partner Christmas gifts. After that we visit the cemetery and light candles on the graves. Sometimes we use to go on the Christmas service in the church that always start at one o`clock but this year we skipped it. After visiting the cemetery we drive home but before we`re at home we go to the cemetery that are in the village where we live and light a candle on the grave there.

Vid två- halv tre tiden brukar vi äta jul middag eller vad man ska kalla det för. Det varierar från år till år hur många vi är hos oss på julafton som äter. När jag var yngre var alltid min farbror och hans sambo med oss, farmor och farfar och mormor och morfar vartannat år och ibland kusinerna.
At two- half past three we use to eat "the Christmas dinner" or what to call it for. It varies from year to year how many we are that eats and celebrate the Christmas eve at our place. When I was younger my dads brother and his partner always was at our place for Christmas, dads parents and my mothers parents every other year and sometimes our cousins.
På julen äter vi alltid förrätt, varmrätt och efterrätt fast efterrätten äts alltid nån/några timmar senare, efter Kalle. Till förrätt har vi bland annat olika slags sill (senaps och löksill bland annat) och strömming, potatissallad, rödbetssallad, gravad lax, ägghalvor med kaviar, någon slags pate.
At our traditional Christmas dinner we always eat starter, main course and dessert but the dessert we always save for later. For starters we have among others different herrings (mustard and onion herring for example) and Baltic herring, potato salad, a salad with beetroots, marinated salmon, egg halves with caviar, some sort of pate.
Till varmrätt har vi alltid skinka, köttbullar, prinskorv, kokade bönor, ärter och brysselkål, morotslåda, lutfisk med bacon, potatis och vitsås.
For maincourse we always have ham, meatballs, a special sausage, cooked beans, peas and brussel sprouts, a special fish called lutefish (apparently the lutefish is a really old dish and tradition coming from the 1300:th century). My family like to eat the lutefish with small bacon crumbs sprinkled on top of it but I like to eat mine without the bacon crumbs. I like it best as it is with some bechamel sauce, salt and pepper. Then we have potatoes with it too.
Efter vi har ätit kollar vi alltid på Kalle Ankas jul för det är ju tradition haha. Sen brukar vi också kolla lite av Kan du vissla Johanna innan vi äter efterrätt.
After we`ve been eating we`re always watching a tv show that is for one hour and comes every Christmas. I´ve seen it now every year at Christmas since I was born and still I´m looking forward to it cause it is a tradition for us swedish people both in Finland and Sweden to watch this. Translated to English the show would be called something like Donald Duck and his friends wishing a merry Christmas. The programme consist of different small cartoon/animated clips from different traditional Disney movies such as Cinderella, Mickey Mouse, Snowhite, Donald Duck etc...
I didn`t know that the tradition to watch this show was as old as it was but to watch this has been a tradition in many swedish families since 1960 when they first sent it. Little bit weird for people from other countries to understand this perhaps because it sounds quite funny/weird but well it is a quite strange tradition or so maybe.
